These boots were perfect. In my job I have to cross a couple streams and small rivers a day and generally get in water up to my knees for these crossings. Got tired of tying my boots around my neck to cross and figured I'd get these boots to help me get water out and cross without having to mess with different shoes. The fabric quality of the boot is nice and they did fit well, they are comfortable boots. However the sole seems to be poor quality. Within a week of use many of the treads were falling off and needed to be super glued back on. The grip they provide is great but they are breaking with not much use out of them. This could be more because I work in rocky areas and they may be better suited for soft wet soil areas. Also on the heel the stitching is fraying out the sides. The ability of the water to escape though the vents is nice and helps keep me hiking in them, just be sure to change out socks or ring them out. For them to be advertised as fast drying they seem to dry at a similar rate to my old boots. For the price I feel that they may be better boots out there. I will still use them and repair them as long as I am able to as I don't want to waste them but when they finally do break for good, for my work I will need something different.I was hoping these could stand up to time. They are comfortable and easy to break in. After a year of use (five days a week) they are about to be thrown away. These weren't cheap boots so I was definately expecting more than one year of use. They can absolutely get soaked through to the sock, between the vents on the sides and even the material itself. They do dry quickly and odor isn't much of a problem. The glue on the soles is peeling, and has been peeling since about 4 months of use. They were still sealed despite the peeling for the next 6 months as my time spent walking was reduced. They have since become unsealed on all sides. I really like these boots so I'm legitimately bummed that they only lasted this long. That's not the quality I would expect from 5.11. My pants from them have lasted a long time so there's that at least. I work in the security industry and did patrol for about three months of the time I used these. Not great for heavy and constant use in rough terrain. My feet are somewhere between size 10 and 10.5 and out of 6 pairs of shoes in my closet 5 are size 10.5 and one is size 10. For these boots I ordered size 10.5 and I am glad I did. When I first put these boots on I was wearing some ankle height athletic socks. I tied the boots and at first I thought they were too roomy. But as I wore the boots and they started to break in, I realized the laces were too loose and that is why they felt roomy. Then I changed my socks to calf-high socks and I inserted some odor control inserts in the boots. I put the boots back on and carefully cinched up the laces from the bottom to the top pulling them real snug. Now they feel perfect. These boots are designed to be cinched up tight so you get maximum ankle support. Now I think the size 10.5 were perfect for me. They are a snug yet comfortable pair of boots. I disagree with reviewers who say they feel like athletic shoes. They feel like boots. I went to USMC boot camp 30 years ago and these feel pretty much just like our standard issue jungle boots. The nylon allows a little more ankle flex than full leather boots but with the laces cinched up tight there is still good ankle support. The heel corners strike the ground firmly when you walk on pavement with not a lot of cushioning feel in the heel. This is where I disagree with those that say these boots feel like athletic shoes. The heels are solid and strong, as is the toe of this boot. I would not like to be on the receiving end of a kick from someone wearing these sturdy boots. Highly recommended especially at this price.Received today and super impressed. What an incredible smooth fit and first day of use. Never experienced this before, especially not with strong and durable shoes like these. I regretted having to take them off at the end of the day. Great fit for my narrow feet too. Love the flexibility in the mid section and heel. These Boots are awesome. Comfortable and Lightweight yet They handle horrible abuse & still last about three years. Probably the longest lasting 511 brand boots available.(The usual point of failure is the midsole separates from the upper.) Absolutely love the traction on these babies have taken them through 21 miles of bog and found that the drainage plugs work like one-way valves doesn't really let any water in but once you flood your boots over the top then every time you step down they pump the water out! Also dry quickly next to the campfire so they're ready for the next days abuse. I would totally recommend these boots for any jungle applicationBasing this review on my experiance with standard issue boot from USMC.Out of the box fit: they fit me well, size 10 regular. The arc support is prominent if i stand and feel for it. I wear the thick fox river socks and the boot fits snug with enough room for a loose fit, and will tighten upvery well drawimg thr lace tighter. They are very comfortable, the color is as the picture. The toe is soft compared military issued boot. Though compared to the issued boot, these do feel more like a sneaker. Internal padding is soft and bouncey, good tread, no pinching. The toe has a sole stiched to the frony as do some running shoes. I never have faith that those will hold up as they tenf to fray and then you vet a little loose peice of aole rubber stivkimg out the front(TBD). The lace is not that of the military issue. How they stand up to regular use is to be seen.Thw material ia not leather. And the toe feela like a piec of thin cardboard sandwiched between suede. Thats dissapointing to me. But 89$ is not 189$ for a boot i intend to abuse...ish (hour hikes, yard work, garage stuff, ocassional butt whooping). Will updateI've only had these for a few weeks, but overall my impression is relatively positive. I ordered an 11.5 Wide and feel that the size is as expected. The break-in period is somewhere between quick and insignificant, which is a nice change from some of the leather boots I've had. The laces are very short, too short in my opinion, so be ready to replace them if you like a bit more length. The good news is that 550 paracord fits the eyelets easily, so getting the length you want or adding a bit of personal style is cheap and easy. The synthetic faux leather actually looks pretty good/convincing and should be easy to clean and care for. There's no side zip on the jungle version (I honestly don't like zippers anyways), but there's also no speed lace system (which I kinda miss, not that it's a deal breaker). There's a lot of foam in these boots, so putting them on feels something like walking on a cloud or like wrapping your feet in foam. They come with a genuine Ortholite insole, but to be fair, it is the thinest cheapest Ortholite insole I've ever seen (just a flat piece of foam with fabric top layer, no fancy molded arch support or heal cup). The insole is removable, but there's a slight bit of adhesive gluing it to the foam bed below. Don't get me wrong, between the two layers of foam and a good sock, you're walking on clouds, but the build quality leaves me wondering about longer term durability or if the $140 I paid (shipped with taxes) wasn't just a bit high. The stock insoles should be more than alright to start, but you may need/want to upgrade once they wear out.Speaking of the outsole, I have mixed feelings. It's hard as a rock and makes an audible click/clack noise on pave and concrete (for comparison my Garmont T8 Bifidas and Rocky S2Vs are both silent on hard surfaces), but they actually do grip quite well. I've tested on wet grass, mud, roots, rocks, gravel, etc... all good. Moreover, the jungle boot version actually has more space between the lugs to better shed mud and the like. It's a weird combo between crazy soft insole and crazy hard outsole, but somehow it works, especially if you intend to use these in the woods. At 660 grams each for the 11.5W, they're heavier than my lightweight boots (which is surprising considering the extensive use of foam and synthetics), but lighter than the aforementioned Garmont's or Rocky's. In wearing them, I didn't notice the weight one way or another, so they at least feel balanced. In actual use, I took them on a hard 12km hike with lots of mixed terrain and many ups and downs. They performed admirably giving me all the grip and comfort that I needed with absolutely no issues to report. I also took them out in the rain and got them wet. No surprise, they aren't water proof (they aren't supposed to be either), but it actually took some work to get them wet (more than a quick splash), and they seemed to drain/dry reasonably well. They were certainly still very usable wet, and with a proper sock, should work well.In summary, comfortable, quick to break in, good for very wet/muddy weather where you're going to get wet, but lacking in quality when it comes to the laces, lacing system, insoles, and hardness of the outsole. For $100 I'd be blown away, for $140, I start to wonder why they cheaped out in certain areas. I'd still recommend these for anyone looking for a jungle boot in particular or a decent boot on a budget, but twice the budget buys you a lot more boot. I'll continue testing them and update this review if I notice anything else worth reporting. My biggest unanswered question comes down to long term durability, but so far, I'm pleased with the purchase and would actually recommend these.I use these daily, and have for well over 6 months in an office environment. I liked these so much I bought a pair for hiking as well, which they perform well at.They fit and walk a bit more like sneakers than hiking boots like most combat boots do. They're very light, breath well, and are good for long periods of standing or walking. I haven't worn these in the winter yet, but I don't think they'd be very warm. They are extremely comfortable and very nice overall. Just got back from a 1 week long canoe trip in northern Manitoba through swamp, mud, sand, grassy and rocky terrain these boots are very comfortable and rapid drying. They are an all around quality boot. They have good grip and a great look to them I would reccomend these boots for most warm weather outdoors activities.Für den Preis sehr sehr gut.
